HS101 ISLAMIC STUDIES (2 + 0)

Fundamentals of Islam : Tauheed, Argument for the Oneness of God. Impact of Tauheed on human life. Place of man in the universe. Purpose of creation. Textual study of At-Taghabun, An-Naba, Al-Asr, Al-Hamd, Al-Ikhlaas, Al-Falaq, An-naas, Al-Kaafiroon.

Prophet-hood : Need for Prophet. Characteristics of a Prophet. Finality of Prophet-hood. Seerat, life of the Prophet as Embodiment of Islamic ideology.

Faith : Faith in the Hereafter (Akhirat). Effect of Belief on worldly life.

Ibadah : Concept of Ibadah. Major Ibadah: Salat (Prayer), soam (Fasting), Zakat (Obligatory Charity), Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca) and Jehad.

Basic Concept of Shariah

The Holy Quran : Its Revelation and Compilation. The Authenticity of the Text.

Hadith : Its need, authenticity and importance.

Ijma’a (Consensus) : Need and importance of Ijma’a.

HS102 TECHNICAL ENGLISH (3+ 0)

Introduction : Importance and skills of technical communication.
Review of Basic English Grammar.

Structure of a sentence and its types : Simple sentence. Compound sentence. Complex sentence. Complex Compound sentence.

English Word-Formation rules; Tenses, use of passive voice and conditionals. Writing a text as a unified whole.

Development of a paragraph : Inductive method. Deductive method. Components of a paragraph: General, Specific and Detailed Statements. Topic sentence and its relation to rest of paragraph.

Elements in preparing to communicate : Identification of possible audiences. Identification of concerns, goal, values and need of the audience.

Technical report writing and techniques for developing a report : Information selection. Information ordering. Foreword and summary. Organising the main points for nonspecialist readers. Organising the report for specialist readers. Conclusion / remarks /recommendations.
HS103 PAKISTAN STUDIES AND ALIGARH MOVEMENT (3+0)

History :
A brief historical survey of Muslim communities in the sub-continent. War of Independence in 1857 and its aftermath. Role of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. Aligarh Movement and its impact on Muslims of Sub-Continent. Two Nation Theory. Formation of Muslim League. Lucknow pact. Khilafat Movement. Non-Cooperation Movement. Various Political Events from 1924 to 1937. Pakistan Resolution. Struggle for Pakistan from 1940 to 1947. Emergence of Pakistan.

Land of Pakistan : Geophysical conditions. Territorial situation and its importance. Natural resources: Mineral and water.

Constitutional Process : Early efforts to make a Constitution - Problems and issues. 1956 Constitution and its abrogation. The Constitution of 1962 and its annulment. Constitutional and political crisis of 1971. The Constitution of 1973. Recent constitutional development.

Foreign Policy : Relations with Neighbours, Muslim countries, and other countries.

HS104 ETHICAL BEHAVIOUR (2 + 0)

Scope and methods of Ethics : Ethics and religion; Ethical teachings of world religions; Basic moral concepts, right and wrong, good and evil; Outline of ethical systems in philosophy; Hedonism, utilitarianism, rationalism, self realization theories, Intuitionism; Islamic moral theory: Ethics of Quran and its philosophical basis, ethical percepts of Quran and Hadith and promotion of moral values in society.
HS301 ENGINEERING ECONOMICS & MANAGEMENT (2+0)

Economics & Engineering Economics : Definition & Differentiation, Economic-Labour & its Problems including Efficiency of Labour, Wages and their Allied Problems, Capital & Interest.

Costs : Fixed & Variable Cost, Element of Time & Cost, Dumping Sunk Cost, Production & Distribution Cost, Income & Profit.

Private & Public Enterprise : Objectives—Input—Choice Between Alternatives.

Planning Production: Planless Economy, Planning & Production for a Market, Mass Production.
